Learning a new Language


Language is the method of communication which can either be spoken or written used by a particular country or community. Human language has the properties of productivity and displacement and relies entirely on social convention and learning. The language varies greatly from region to region or country to country. The variety may be so complex and different that one individual does not understand the language of a member from another region or country. The total number of languages that are to be spoken all around the world is estimated to be around six thousand nine hundred and nine. The three most spoken languages in the world are Mandarin, Spanish and English.





According to research, speaking two or more than two languages is a great asset to the cognitive process. Speaking more languages can actually make you smart because it improves the functionality of your brain by challenging it to recognise it, understand the meaning and to communicate in a different language. This skill helps boost your ability in other problem-solving tasks as well. The brains of people who speak multiple languages operate differently than single-language speakers which offer several mental benefits. People who can speak multiple languages, especially kids are skilled at switching between two systems of speech, writing and structure which makes them good multitasks because they can easily switch between structures. Learning a language involves memorizing rules and vocabulary, which helps strengthen the mental muscle. Due to which overall memory improves which means that multiple language speakers are better at remembering lists or sequence and develops a variety of cognitive skills. Thus, learning a new language can help a student to get higher scores and standardized exams in math, reading and vocabulary.




Since to understand a culture you must first understand its language. Learning a new language enables a person to have a broader understanding of the particular culture or race. Opening up to a new culture allows you to be appreciative of other ways of doing and looking things making you more flexible. Learning a new language can help boost your career or help you while travelling a new place. Besides the rules and vocabulary that go with learning a new language, there are facial and language expressions that a student frequently judges for appropriateness and hidden meanings which help the student enhance decision-making ability. The discipline that they develop in studying unknown language makes the learner become more perceptive. Thus making them be a critical thinker and building self-confidence.
